2017 Chick of the Walk

Well done to the ladies who competed in the Weekend Chick of the Walk final last Saturday. It was certainly a Nip & Tuck affair with the team of Megan Oman & Trudi Unwin holding off the strong challenge from Tracy Hall & Joanne McKenzie to win 1up. Both teams had their opportunities to put the other to the sword but good shot making and perseverance saw the match go down to the wire. Congratulations to all four players. 2017 Massey Park Cup

Congratulations to Shane Fitzpatrick on winning the 2017 Massey Park Cup. The win takes his cup tally to four after having won previously in 2010, 2012 & 2013 making him the first person to win 4 cups. A truly remarkable effort that well and truly is forging a golfing legacy at Massey Park. Shane who is playing off a handicap of +1 shot a two under par 64 to take the cup by one shot from Nick Crews from The Australian GC. Winner of the Nett was the always consistent Geoff Bain with Nett 62 of a handicap of 9. This is another good performance in the cup from Geoff who got into a play-off back in 2015. We appreciate all the visitors who came and played in the event and look forward to seeing you back in 2018. We would like to thank Frank Costello from BNP Securities for his ongoing support of Massey Park Golf Club and we would also like the thank Aaron Fluke and his greens staff for their efforts in presenting the course after a tough week of adverse weather....

Massey Park at 2017 World Masters Games

In early May, members from Massey Park participated in at the World Masters Games held in Auckland. Kelvin Cameron, Phil Canty, Peter Lane and John Meldrum competed at in the 65-74s group whilst the ever-sprightly David Doring played in the 75-84 age group. A truly large international sporting event, The World Masters Games is held every 4 years. The City of Auckland hosted 28,000 Athletes plus supporters and family members from over 100 countries competing in 28 sports over a 10 day period. This is bigger than the Olympics in scope and numbers of athletes competing. Proceedings commenced with The Opening Ceremony at Eden Park. The stands were filled with a mass of excited athletes who were entertained by performers and a spectacular laser light show prior to the swearing of the Athletes Oath and the Athlete March Pass. Athletes marched behind their Sport Banner. Kelvin Cameron was honoured to be selected to hold the Golf Banner and lead the massed golfers around the playing field. Some of the guys were also Inducted into The World Masters Games 2017 Hall of Fame and have badges to prove it. If you are interested in what led to that honour, buy them a drink and ask them but do be careful of believing everything you get told. So, how did they go in the Golf Competition? It was a 72 hole Stableford Event. Qualifying Rounds were played over consecutive days at the picturesque beachside Murawai Links and the hilly rolling up and down fairways of the Pakuranga Course. The guys had a great time with John an early bolter before having to withdraw, Phil making a late but unsuccessful charge for the final 18 hole Medal Round and the others improving but not quite meeting the many challenges presented by the Courses. The guys will tell you that they had a very memorable experience with Auckland abuzz and its citizens warmly welcoming and ever helpful. Fellow competitors were great joy to meet and that they had three of the most enjoyable rounds of golf. The proceedings concluded with the Closing Ceremony in the Wharf Area of downtown Auckland where it was announced that the next World Masters Games will be held in Kansai, Japan in 2021. If you are interested in a great experience, any of the guys will willingly give you the info on how to participate and enjoy the pure delight of a wonderful celebration of sport for the mature...
